Generous Support Allows for Expanded Veterans Services

Thanks to leadership gifts from Tom Johnson and Virginians for Veterans, Hospice of the Piedmont was able to hire a dedicated Veterans Services Coordinator to oversee customized programs and Veteran volunteers who respectfully honor and care for Veterans as they face the end of their lives. Since the Spring of 2020, Bob Pearson has been focused on enhancing and expanding programs to honor and serve Veteran patients and their families. As a Veteran himself, Bob is personally committed to caring for Veterans and he appreciates and understands their unique needs. Bob is an Air Force Vietnam Veteran and a retired career Intelligence Officer with the Central Intelligence Agency. He has been associated with Hospice of the Piedmont for 10 years, serving as a patient volunteer at the Hospice House, volunteer lead for our Veterans Program, and as Veterans Services Coordinator. Bob is committed to the mission of dedicated care for Veterans in our service and has accepted the “solemn obligation to serve them as well as they have served us.” We’re grateful to Bob for revitalizing our Veterans’ services and addressing the unique challenges facing our military men and women who have selflessly served and defended our nation. The generous funding has enabled Hospice of the Piedmont to expand our services to Veterans during their final steps of life’s journey. We do this in the following ways:

  • By enhancing our community’s awareness and appreciation of the unique needs of Veterans at end-of-life
  • By expanding our training initiatives and interaction with staff and care teams to grow insights and knowledge of those needs
  • By conducting research into various Veteran platforms to identify and promote innovative care techniques, where and when appropriate

Hospice of the Piedmont can now further support each individual Veteran we serve—as well as their entire family—by helping to ease pain, loneliness, and suffering.
